The game kicked off with the Stars taking an early lead by netting 3 goals in the first period, setting a challenging pace for the Avalanche. However, undeterred by this initial disadvantage, the Avalanche showcased their resilience and strategic prowess as they fought back in subsequent periods. The second period saw them leveling up with 2 crucial goals, followed by another goal in the third period to tie the game and push it into overtime.

The turning point came during overtime when Colorado capitalized on their power play opportunity. Out of their total 2 power play chances throughout the game, they successfully converted both into goals, demonstrating exceptional efficiency and tactical execution under pressure. These power play goals were pivotal not only for overcoming a three-goal deficit but also for securing their win against Dallas.

Colorado's offensive efforts were backed by solid goaltending that saw them making 19 saves out of 22 shots faced. Their defense was equally formidable; they blocked 24 shots and delivered an astounding number of hits totaling 45 throughout the game. Despite facing more penalties than Dallas—5 minor penalties amounting to 10 penalty minutes—their disciplined play under shorthanded conditions prevented any further damage on scoreline.

On Dallas' front, despite having more opportunities on power plays (4 chances), they managed to convert only one into a goal. Their goaltending effort was commendable with 22 saves made out of Colorado's total shots on goal (26). However, it wasn't enough to fend off Avalanche's aggressive offense especially during overtime.
