The game took place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, where both teams showcased their strengths and weaknesses throughout the match. The Avalanche struggled to find their footing in the first two periods, failing to score against the Stars. However, they made a remarkable comeback attempt in the third period by scoring three goals. This late surge highlighted their resilience and ability to pressure opponents even under challenging circumstances.

The Colorado team managed to outshoot Dallas with 31 attempts on goal compared to Dallas's equal number of shots. Despite this effort and achieving an even strength shooting percentage of ten percent from their total shots taken during gameplay, it was not enough to secure victory. The Avalanche also showed prowess in faceoffs winning 35 out of 69 attempts but struggled with penalty minutes accumulating twelve throughout the game.

On defense, Colorado blocked an impressive total of twenty-six shots from reaching their goaltender but still allowed five goals including one empty-netter which sealed their fate towards defeat. Their powerplay opportunities did not yield any goals despite having three chances and managing five shots on target during these moments.

Dallas Stars capitalized on powerplay opportunities scoring two out of five chances which significantly contributed to their win. Their shorthanded goal added insult to injury for Colorado further extending Dallas's lead during critical moments of play.
