The Colorado Avalanche faced off against the Minnesota Wild at Ball Arena, resulting in a 5-2 defeat for the home team. The Avalanche now hold a record of 38-10-9, while the Wild improved to 35-14-10. Despite their efforts, the Avs were unable to capitalize on key moments throughout the game.

First Period

The opening period saw both teams struggling to find their rhythm, with neither side managing to score. The Avalanche had several opportunities but failed to convert any into goals. Their defense held strong against Minnesota's attacks, keeping them at bay and maintaining a scoreless tie.

Second Period

In the second period, Colorado managed to break through with Nathan MacKinnon assisting on one of their two goals. However, this was overshadowed by Minnesota's offensive surge as they netted two goals themselves. The Avs' powerplay unit couldn't find its footing despite having three opportunities and taking six shots during these advantages.

Third Period

As play resumed in the third period, it was clear that momentum had shifted towards Minnesota. They scored three more times while limiting Colorado's chances effectively. Cale Makar played an essential role defensively but couldn't prevent all of Minnesota’s advances as they sealed their victory with an empty-net goal late in regulation.

Despite outshooting their opponents 47-36 overall and winning faceoffs at an impressive rate of 65 percent compared to just 35 percent for Minnesota – including standout performances from players like Gabriel Landeskog who contributed one assist – these efforts weren't enough against Filip Gustavsson’s stellar goaltending performance which earned him first star honors after making crucial saves throughout each period.
