Columbus Blue Jackets Edged Out in Overtime by Florida Panthers at Nationwide Arena

In a closely contested matchup at Nationwide Arena, the Columbus Blue Jackets fell to the Florida Panthers in overtime, leaving their season record at 31-28-9. Despite a valiant effort that saw the game tied through regulation, the Panthers managed to secure a 1-0 victory in overtime, improving their record to 42-24-3.

Game Highlights


The game was characterized by intense defensive play from both teams. The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Florida Panthers were locked in a stalemate for much of the contest, with neither side able to find the back of the net during regular time. The goaltenders for both teams put on stellar performances. Elvis Merzlikins of Columbus made an impressive 27 saves throughout the game but ultimately conceded one goal during overtime. His counterpart, Sergei Bobrovsky of Florida, achieved a shutout with 25 saves.


Columbus showed resilience and determination against a strong offensive team like Florida. Despite being outshot 28 to 25, they managed to keep most attempts off target thanks to their disciplined defense and shot-blocking efforts that resulted in 18 blocked shots compared to Florida's 14.

Player Performances


Several players stood out for their contributions on ice despite not scoring. Zach Werenski led his team with six shots attempted and played over twenty-five minutes, showcasing his importance on both ends of the ice. Justin Danforth was notable for his physical presence leading his team with four hits alongside Adam Fantilli who also contributed three hits and two shots attempting to spark offense for Columbus.


On special teams play, both squads had limited opportunities but it was Florida who capitalized on theirs scoring once out of two powerplay chances while Columbus failed to convert any of their two chances into goals.
