First Period

Both teams started strong defensively, with neither side managing to find the back of the net. The Blue Jackets showcased their defensive prowess by blocking several attempts from Toronto's forwards. Zach Werenski was particularly active on defense, contributing significantly with his shot-blocking abilities.

Third Period

The deadlock was finally broken when Zach Werenski scored for Columbus early in this period, assisted by Miles Wood. This goal energized Nationwide Arena and gave hope to CBJ fans that their team might secure a victory at home. However, Toronto responded swiftly with William Nylander leveling things up for the Buds.

Overtime

As overtime commenced, both teams were eager for victory but cautious not to make mistakes that could cost them dearly. Despite several attempts by Columbus during this period, it was ultimately Joseph Woll's stellar goaltending that kept them at bay while Auston Matthews set up Nylander for his second goal of night sealing win for Toronto.
