First Period

The opening period saw both teams testing each other's defenses, but it was the Sharks who drew first blood. The home team capitalized on their opportunities and managed to score once during this period. The Blue Jackets struggled to find their rhythm offensively, despite having several attempts on goal.

Second Period

In the second period, Columbus began to show signs of life as they found their way onto the scoreboard with a goal by Sean Monahan. However, San Jose matched this effort with a goal of their own, maintaining their lead. The period was marked by intense back-and-forth play and showcased some solid defensive efforts from both sides.

Third Period

The final period turned into a decisive one for San Jose as they netted three more goals. Despite Zach Werenski's contribution of one goal for Columbus in this segment, it wasn't enough to close the gap created by San Jose's offensive surge. The Sharks' Alex Nedeljkovic stood out with his performance between the pipes, making crucial saves that kept Columbus at bay.

Throughout this matchup, key moments such as faceoff wins were dominated by Columbus with a faceoff win percentage of 58 percent. However, these efforts were overshadowed by missed opportunities on power plays where they failed to convert any chances into goals despite having five shots during powerplay situations.
