The match was held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where both teams showcased their defensive prowess. The Dallas Stars put up a resilient fight but were unable to penetrate the Golden Knights' defense. Despite their efforts, the Stars could not find the back of the net throughout the game. They attempted a total of 23 shots on goal but were met with an impenetrable barrier as all were saved by the opposing goaltender.

The Stars' defense was equally formidable for much of the game, blocking an impressive total of 21 shots and delivering 20 hits to try and sway momentum in their favor. Their goaltender made an admirable effort with a total of 28 saves from 29 shots faced during regular play; however, one shot did get past him before an empty-net goal sealed their fate towards game's end.

On special teams play, Dallas had limited opportunities to capitalize on power plays and managed only one shot during these moments without success. Their penalty kill unit was effective though, preventing any goals on two occasions when they were shorthanded.

Conversely, The Vegas Golden Knights found success late in the third period scoring twice to secure their victory. Their offensive efforts saw them taking more chances with a total of 30 shots on goal throughout three periods. They also edged out Dallas slightly in faceoffs won (28 compared to Dallas's 24) which contributed to maintaining control over puck possession and ultimately led them to victory.
