The Red Wings came out strong in the first period, setting an aggressive tone that would carry them through the rest of the game. They managed to put three goals past the Sabres' goaltender on just 24 shots throughout the match. The powerplay unit contributed significantly to this effort by capitalizing on one of their two opportunities and maintaining a faceoff win percentage of 75 percent during those crucial moments.

Detroit's goaltending was equally impressive; their netminder saved all but one of the whopping 38 shots he faced from Buffalo's offense. This included denying all attempts during both teams' even-strength play where he faced and saved 36 shots. The defensive squad also played its part by blocking an impressive total of 27 shots over three periods.

On top of their defensive prowess, Detroit showed discipline by matching Buffalo's six penalties but not allowing any powerplay goals against them. Their penalty kill units were effective when down a man and did not concede any goals while shorthanded.

The Sabres managed to find some success early on with a powerplay goal in the first period from one of their two chances with an extra man on ice. However, they struggled to maintain this momentum as they could not convert any more goals despite having equal faceoff wins at even strength with Detroit.

Buffalo's physicality was evident as they delivered more hits than Detroit with a total count of 29 compared to Detroit’s 28 hits throughout the game. However, it wasn't enough to disrupt Detroit’s gameplay or scoring efficiency which boasted a shooting percentage four times higher than that of Buffalo’s.

As for individual performances from both sides: while no player scored multiple times for either team, it was clear that every point counted towards building up towards victory or attempting to close gaps within scoring opportunities presented during playtime between these two NHL franchises competing fiercely against each other on ice rinks across North America today!
