In what was an evenly matched game, both teams displayed solid performances on the ice. The Red Wings took advantage of their opportunities, scoring five goals from their 35 shots for a shooting percentage of 14 percent. Their offensive efforts were supported by ten assists throughout the game. On special teams, despite having only one powerplay opportunity which lasted two minutes and resulted in five shots on goal, they were unable to convert it into a score.

Defensively, the Red Wings made sure to keep pressure on their opponents with 28 hits and blocked eleven shots from reaching their netminder. They also took away possession five times through takeaways but gave up six giveaways themselves.

The goaltending for Detroit was crucial as they made seventeen saves out of twenty-one shots faced during even strength play. This performance contributed significantly to maintaining their lead throughout various stages of the game.

On the other side of the rink, Montreal's offense managed four goals from twenty-one shots – an impressive shooting percentage of nineteen percent – aided by seven assists. However, they struggled in faceoffs with only a fifty-two percent win rate and failed to capitalize on any powerplay as they had no opportunities during this match.

Montreal's defense put up strong resistance by blocking thirty-three shots and delivering thirty-two hits against Detroit players but ultimately fell short as they allowed five goals against them. Their goaltender had a busy night with thirty saves out of thirty-five total shots faced over sixty-four minutes and thirty-five seconds on ice but suffered an overtime loss due to one decisive goal conceded during extra time.

As fans look forward to future matchups between these two storied franchises, attention now turns towards another chapter in this rivalry set at Bell Centre where Montreal will host Detroit once more. The upcoming game is scheduled for April 16th at Bell Centre located in Montreal; fans can catch all action live starting at 7:00 PM Eastern Time broadcasted via ESPN+ online or BSDET television network.
