First Period

The game kicked off with both teams displaying strong defensive strategies. The Red Wings managed to strike first with J.T. Compher finding the back of the net, assisted by Andrew Copp and Mason Appleton. However, this early lead was short-lived as Alexis Lafreniere responded for the Blueshirts, leveling the score at 1-1 by period's end.

Second Period

As play resumed in the second period, both teams struggled to break through each other's defenses. Despite several powerplay opportunities for Detroit, they were unable to capitalize on any of their four chances due to an impressive penalty kill from New York. The Rangers edged ahead with another goal from Artemi Panarin during even strength play.

Third Period

In a decisive third period, New York's offense came alive with two more goals that sealed their victory over Detroit. Jonathan Quick stood tall between the pipes for New York, saving 32 shots and allowing only one goal throughout all three periods.

Despite outshooting their opponents with a total of 33 shots on goal compared to New York's 26, what went wrong for Detroit Red Wings was evident in missed opportunities and giveaways that plagued them throughout this matchup.
