First Period

The opening period saw both teams testing each other's defenses without any goals being scored. The Red Wings managed to hold their ground against a strong offensive push from the Canes, with John Gibson making crucial saves to keep his team in contention. Despite not finding the back of the net, Detroit's defense showed resilience early on.

Second Period

The second period proved pivotal as it marked a shift in momentum towards Carolina. The Canes capitalized on their opportunities and netted three goals, leaving Detroit struggling to respond effectively. Although Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat worked hard to create chances for the Winged Wheel, they couldn't break through Carolina's solid defensive setup.

Third Period

In an attempt to mount a comeback during the third period, Michael Rasmussen scored for Detroit, assisted by J.T. Compher and Axel Sandin-Pellikka during a powerplay opportunity. However, this effort was overshadowed by two more goals from Carolina that sealed their victory. Despite outshooting their opponents on powerplays with five shots compared to one from Carolina's side, Detroit could only convert once.

Detroit's goaltender John Gibson made 33 saves throughout the game but faced relentless pressure from an aggressive Hurricanes offense that ultimately proved too much for him alone.
