The Oilers found themselves struggling to penetrate the Canucks' defense throughout the game. Despite their efforts and a total of 27 shots taken towards goal, only one managed to find its way past the opposing goaltender. The sole goal for the Oilers came during a powerplay opportunity in the second period which was one out of four chances they had with a man advantage. Their powerplay success was evident as they scored once from seven shots and won four out of five faceoffs during these moments.

On defense, however, it was a challenging night for Edmonton's team as they conceded eight goals from thirty-two shots against them. The goaltending statistics reflected this difficulty; twenty-four saves were made from thirty-two shots faced over sixty minutes on ice. In particular situations like shorthanded play where they faced thirteen shots and allowed three goals against them.

Offensively speaking, aside from their lone goal scored on powerplay by capitalizing on one out of four opportunities presented to them; their even-strength play yielded no goals despite nineteen attempts on target. They also had twenty-one hits throughout the game but only managed to take away possession once compared to seven times by their opponents.

The Vancouver Canucks capitalized effectively on their opportunities scoring eight times which included three powerplay goals from six chances while also successfully defending all but one of Edmonton's attempts when down a player.
