The game at Nationwide Arena saw the Oilers struggle to find their rhythm early on. Despite their efforts, they were unable to score in the first period while Columbus capitalized on opportunities to secure a three-goal lead. The second period brought more promise for Edmonton as they managed to slip one past Columbus' goaltender, marking their first point on the board and raising hopes for a comeback.

Edmonton's powerplay unit showed some effectiveness during the match. They had three opportunities and converted one into a goal with an impressive faceoff win percentage of 75 percent during powerplays. This goal was crucial in keeping them within striking distance as it brought them closer to tying up the game.

However, even strength play told another story; while Edmonton did manage an even-strength goal from their total of 27 shots during such situations, it wasn't enough to overcome Columbus' solid defense and goaltending which only allowed one even-strength goal against them throughout the night.

On defense, Edmonton put up significant resistance with blocked shots totaling 15 and hits amounting to 13 as they tried to contain Columbus' offense. Their goaltender made an admirable effort with a total save percentage rounding up at nearly perfect figures but ultimately conceded four goals before an empty netter sealed their fate late in third period.

The Blue Jackets demonstrated strong offensive skills throughout all periods and maintained control over much of gameplay dynamics including takeaways where they led by nine compared to Oilers’ two. Their shooting accuracy was also higher than that of Edmonton's at around twelve percent which contributed significantly towards securing victory on home ice.

As fans look ahead after this tough loss for Edmonton Oilers, attention turns towards their next challenge away from home soil against Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center scheduled for March 9th at noon Eastern Time (ET). Fans can catch all action live through broadcasts available on ESPN+ and Hulu networks ensuring they don't miss any moment from this upcoming encounter.
