Oilers Edged Out in Overtime: Arizona Coyotes Sneak Past at Rogers Place

At Rogers Place, home to the Oilers and filled with 18,347 fans anticipating an exciting game of hockey, both teams demonstrated their determination from the start. The first period saw no goals from Edmonton but one from Arizona. The second period brought more action as the Oilers equalized with one goal to match Arizona's additional single tally. As tension built up in the third period, Edmonton managed another goal to tie up the game once again.


The statistics reflect a game where both teams had their moments of dominance. The Oilers outshot their opponents by a significant margin with 41 attempts on goal compared to Arizona's 28 shots. However, shooting accuracy was on Arizona's side as they boasted an eleven percent shooting percentage over Edmonton's five percent.

Edmonton also showed physicality throughout the match with a total of 37 hits against Arizona's nineteen hits. Faceoffs were another area where Edmonton excelled; winning sixty-six percent compared to thirty-four percent by their opponents.


Despite these efforts and leading in several statistical categories including faceoff wins and shots on goal, it was not enough for victory. In overtime play marked by high stakes and intensity on both sides; it was ultimately an overtime shot that sealed Edmonton’s fate as they conceded one more goal while failing to capitalize on their own chances during this decisive extra frame.
