The game began favorably for the Oilers as they secured an early lead in the first period. Connor McDavid was instrumental, scoring one of the two goals that put Edmonton ahead. The team displayed solid offensive pressure and managed to outshoot their opponents with a total of 30 shots on goal throughout the game.

However, things took a turn in the second period when Dallas responded strongly by netting three goals. Despite maintaining their physicality with a total of 45 hits and blocking 23 shots, Edmonton struggled to contain Dallas's offensive surge. The Oilers' defense allowed five goals on just twenty-two shots from their opponents.

Edmonton had opportunities to capitalize on power plays but failed to convert any of them into goals despite having five shots during these chances. Their faceoff win percentage stood at forty-eight percent, slightly trailing behind Dallas's fifty-two percent.

In contrast, Dallas showcased efficient shooting accuracy by converting twenty-three percent of their attempts into goals. Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz were pivotal for the Stars; Robertson scored one goal while Hintz added another crucial tally that contributed significantly to their victory.

Goaltending also played a critical role in this matchup. While Edmonton's goalie made seventeen saves out of twenty-two shots faced during even strength play, it wasn't enough to secure a win as he conceded four goals overall along with an empty-netter towards game's end.
