Game Highlights

The game was a defensive battle from start to finish, with both teams showcasing their goaltending and defensive strategies. The Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks were locked in a stalemate for much of the game, with neither team able to find the back of the net until late into the third period. It was then that the Oilers managed to break through, scoring two crucial goals that would eventually push them into a shootout after regulation time ended tied.

Corey Perry and Ben Gleason were standout performers for Edmonton. Perry's goal during regular play added to his impressive preseason tally, proving once again why he is considered one of the key offensive players for his team. Gleason also found himself among the stars of the game thanks to his decisive goal in regular play which contributed significantly to his team's success.

On defense and between the pipes, Stuart Skinner was formidable for Edmonton. Recording 21 saves on 23 shots against him throughout regulation and overtime showed Skinner's critical role in this victory. His performance under pressure during shorthanded situations was particularly noteworthy as he managed four saves out of five shorthanded shots faced.

Looking at Vancouver

The Vancouver Canucks put up a strong fight throughout this encounter. Their powerplay unit managed to capitalize once out of four opportunities which kept them competitive until late into overtime before ultimately falling short in shootout attempts where they couldn't manage to get one past Edmonton's goalie.

Nathan Smith stood out for Vancouver as one of their three stars due to his overall play contributing significantly despite not securing a win.
