First Period

The opening period set the tone for what would be a challenging night for Edmonton. The Sabres struck first, taking advantage of their opportunities and putting pressure on Stuart Skinner, who made 23 saves throughout the game. Despite outshooting their opponents with 33 shots on goal overall, the Oil struggled to find their rhythm early on.

Second Period

In the second period, Jack Roslovic provided a glimmer of hope for Edmonton by scoring their only goal of the night. His effort was supported by an assist from Leon Draisaitl, who continued his role as a key playmaker for his team. However, this was overshadowed by Buffalo's two goals during this period which extended their lead further.

Third Period

As they entered into the final stretch of play at KeyBank Center, any momentum gained by Edmonton seemed to dissipate. The Blue and Gold capitalized on defensive lapses from Edmonton and added two more goals to seal their victory convincingly. Notably absent from making an impact was Connor McDavid; despite his presence on ice for over 23 minutes he couldn't alter course for his team.

The post-game report Edmonton Oilers highlighted missed opportunities and defensive errors that plagued them throughout all three periods against an efficient opponent like Buffalo whose shooting percentage stood impressively high at 18 percent compared to just three percent from visitors’ side.
