Did the Florida Panthers' Powerplay Fall Short Against New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden?

The first period saw both teams scoring one goal each. The Panthers' lone goal came from their powerplay opportunity, showcasing their ability to capitalize on man advantages. However, they struggled to find the back of the net for the remainder of regulation and overtime periods.


Florida's offensive statistics included 27 shots on goal and an overall shooting percentage of 4 percent. They also managed to block 23 shots from reaching their netminder Sergei Bobrovsky, who made 28 saves out of 30 shots faced, achieving a save percentage of nearly perfect accuracy.

On special teams, Florida had two powerplay opportunities but could only convert one into a goal. Their penalty kill unit was effective as well, preventing any goals during shorthanded situations despite facing four powerplays from New York.


The physicality of the game was evident with Florida delivering 42 hits compared to New York's higher tally of hits. Additionally, faceoffs were closely contested; Florida won 33 out of 69 faceoffs for an efficiency rate just below half.

New York's performance was highlighted by Barclay Goodrow and Igor Shesterkin being named among the game's three stars for their contributions in offense and goaltending respectively. Goodrow scored one even-strength goal while Shesterkin made crucial saves throughout all periods including overtime.


Despite having fewer giveaways than New York (4 compared to NYR’s higher number), Florida couldn't capitalize on these turnovers effectively enough to change the outcome favorably towards themselfs .
