The Kings opened up scoring early in the first period but were unable to maintain their lead as the game progressed. The home team managed to put up 25 shots on goal throughout the match but found success only once, translating to a shooting percentage of four percent. On defense, they blocked an impressive total of 16 shots from reaching their goaltender.

The Dallas Stars demonstrated efficiency on offense by converting four out of their 35 shots into goals, marking an eleven percent shooting accuracy. Their powerplay unit capitalized on one out of five opportunities which proved crucial in extending their lead over the Kings.

Los Angeles's goaltender faced a barrage from Dallas's attackers and made an admirable total of 31 saves during playtime; however, three goals slipped past him before an empty-netter sealed his team's fate late in the third period. In contrast, Dallas's netminder had a lighter workload with only one goal allowed off 25 shots against him.

Faceoffs were fiercely contested throughout; however, it was Los Angeles that edged out with a fifty-five percent win rate at faceoff dots compared to forty-five percent for Dallas.
