The game was characterized by intense competition and high stakes. The Montreal Canadiens displayed remarkable resilience, overcoming a scoreless first period to notch up one goal in both the second and third periods. Their performance in the shootout was decisive; they scored two goals and made three saves out of four shots, which ultimately secured their victory.

The Canadiens' goaltender played an instrumental role in their win, saving 31 out of 33 shots for a save percentage of 94 percent. This defensive stronghold was complemented by an offensive push that saw the team take a total of 24 shots on goal with an eight percent shooting accuracy.

Special teams were active but not as effective as hoped; both powerplay opportunities for Montreal did not result in goals despite taking two shots during these chances. However, their faceoff performance was strong throughout regular play with a winning percentage of 56 percent.

On defense, Montreal blocked an impressive number of attempts from San Jose – totaling at fifteen blocks – while also managing to keep giveaways low with only five recorded during the game. Their takeaway count stood at seven compared to eighteen by San Jose.

The home team put up a formidable fight as well. The Sharks matched Montreal's intensity throughout regular play and capitalized on one out of their two powerplay opportunities which contributed to their two-goal tally before heading into overtime and eventually losing in the shootout.

Looking ahead for fans of the Montreal Canadiens is another challenging matchup against Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena on November 25th scheduled for broadcast starting at 4:00 PM Eastern Time (1:00 PM local time). This encounter can be watched nationally on ESPN+ or locally via BSW channel number six hundred ninety-two.
