The home team Canadiens demonstrated their offensive might by netting five goals on 38 shots for an impressive shooting percentage of 13 percent. The team's strength was evident while playing shorthanded, where they managed to score one goal on just two shots. Their powerplay unit also contributed significantly to their success by scoring one goal from eight shots and providing two assists during their seven powerplay opportunities.

Montreal's goaltending was equally formidable; they saved 37 out of the Panthers' 40 attempts on goal. This included six saves during Florida's powerplays and nine while the Canadiens were shorthanded. The defensive effort was bolstered by blocking 18 shots and delivering a total of 20 hits throughout the game.

On the other side, despite losing, the Panthers showed resilience and strategic play with their powerplay strength. They took nine shots during five opportunities but were unable to convert any into goals due in part to Montreal’s staunch defense and goaltending efforts. Florida also won a notable majority of faceoffs at a rate of 64 percent but struggled with penalties that resulted in them spending significant time playing with fewer skaters on ice.

The match concluded without any need for overtime as both teams played fiercely until the end time marked at Bell Centre clocked at midnight Eastern Time. A crowd of over twenty-one thousand fans witnessed this intense matchup which ended after three periods of regulation play.
