In front of an energetic crowd at Bell Centre, the Montreal Canadiens put on an offensive clinic against their opponents. The home team's relentless attack was evident from the first period as they opened up scoring and never looked back. By the second period, they had amassed an impressive five goals to their tally. The third period saw both teams score three times each but by then, the outcome was all but decided.

The Canadiens' shooting accuracy was remarkable throughout the night as they converted 30 percent of their shots into goals. Their offense was firing on all cylinders with nine players contributing to a total of nine goals and fifteen assists. This collective effort overwhelmed the Flyers' defense and goaltending which managed only twenty-one saves on thirty shots faced.

Despite being outplayed in faceoffs won percentage by Philadelphia's fifty-four percent to forty-six percent, it did little to deter Montreal's momentum. The home team also showed discipline by limiting themselves to just three penalties over sixty minutes while maintaining robust defensive play that resulted in seventeen blocked shots.

The Flyers struggled to find any rhythm offensively until late in the game when they scored all three of their goals during even strength play in one period. Their eight percent shooting accuracy paled in comparison to that of their hosts'. Additionally, Philadelphia could not capitalize on two powerplay opportunities given during the match.
