In a game that saw the New Jersey Devils take an early lead, their efforts were ultimately overshadowed by a dominant performance from the Los Angeles Kings. The Devils opened up scoring with a goal in the first period but failed to capitalize further despite having 31 shots on goal throughout the match. Their shooting accuracy was low, with only a three percent success rate compared to their opponents' more clinical twenty-two percent.

The Devils showed resilience on defense with 23 hits and blocked 13 shots but struggled in faceoffs, winning just under half at forty-eight percent. They also had fewer giveaways than their opponents and managed four takeaways during play. However, they could not convert any of their two powerplay opportunities into goals and suffered from penalties that led to six penalty minutes.

On special teams, while shorthanded twice, they allowed one goal against them despite making three saves during those situations. Their goaltender faced an onslaught from the Kings' offense and made eighteen saves out of twenty-two shots before an empty netter brought his total goals against to five for this encounter.

Conversely, The Los Angeles Kings capitalized on their chances by scoring five goals from twenty-three shots and winning fifty-two percent of faceoffs which contributed significantly to maintaining possession and control over the game's pace. They effectively utilized their powerplays by converting one out of three opportunities into a goal which helped cement their lead over The Devils.
