Devils' Effort Falls Short Against Hurricanes' Late Surge at Prudential Center

The New Jersey Devils, with a record of 31-29-5, faced off against the Carolina Hurricanes, who came into the game with a 40-14-8 record. In a hard-fought contest at the Prudential Center, the final score read 4-2 in favor of the visiting team.

The Devils entered this matchup aiming to improve their home record but found themselves trailing after the first period as the Hurricanes notched an early goal. The second period saw an improved effort from the Devils as they leveled the scoreline to 1-1. However, despite their efforts and out-hitting their opponents with a total of 27 hits compared to Carolina's 18, they were unable to maintain control.

New Jersey's goaltender made an impressive total of 22 saves throughout the game but ultimately conceded four goals, two of which were empty-netters in a last-ditch effort by New Jersey to tie up the game. The Devils' shooting accuracy was evident with a shooting percentage of eight percent from their total shots on goal.

On special teams play, New Jersey struggled on powerplay opportunities failing to convert any of their four chances and maintaining only zero percent efficiency in this critical aspect. Conversely, Carolina capitalized on one out of three powerplays which contributed significantly to their victory.

Despite winning more faceoffs during shorthanded situations than Carolina and having higher faceoff win percentages both shorthanded (60 percent) and on powerplays (71 percent), it wasn't enough for New Jersey. They also fell short in even-strength situations where they scored both goals but allowed three against them.

Looking ahead for fans eager to follow their team's progress: The New Jersey Devils will be visiting Madison Square Garden for an encounter against rivals New York Rangers scheduled for March 11th at 6:00 PM Eastern Time. This match-up can be caught live on ESPN+, MSG or MSGSN networks for those who wish to tune in and support their team away from home.
