The match began without any scoring in the first period as both teams tested each other's defenses. However, it was in the second period that the New Jersey Devils started to gain momentum. They capitalized on their powerplay opportunities by scoring three goals out of nine shots when they had the man advantage. The powerplay unit's efficiency was remarkable as they boasted an 83 percent faceoff win percentage during these critical moments.

The New Jersey Devils' goaltender played an integral role in securing this victory by saving all but one of the 19 shots he faced throughout the game, ending with an impressive save percentage of 100 percent for even-strength situations. On offense, their shooting accuracy was double that of their opponents', registering a solid 10 percent shooting percentage compared to Winnipeg's five percent.

On defense, The Devils were just as formidable; they blocked nearly twice as many shots as The Jets did—19 compared to Winnipeg's eleven—and outperformed them in takeaways with nine versus four for The Jets. This defensive solidity limited Winnipeg to only one goal despite several attempts on target.

Winnipeg’s lone goal came during even strength play and was one of seventeen even-strength shots taken by them throughout the night. Their goaltender made thirty-seven saves but ultimately suffered a loss due to The Devil’s relentless attack which included forty-one shots on goal and an empty-netter sealing their fate.
