First Period

The opening period saw a strong start from the Hurricanes, who managed to secure an early lead with one goal. The Devils struggled to find their rhythm and were unable to capitalize on their opportunities during this period. Despite having 22 shots on goal throughout the game, they couldn't break through in these initial stages.

Second Period

In an impressive comeback attempt during the second period, the Devils scored twice to level up with their opponents. Jesper Bratt was instrumental in this surge, contributing both a goal and an assist for his team. His efforts were complemented by Dougie Hamilton's performance as he also found his way onto the scoresheet with one goal.

Third Period

However, it was in this final segment that things took a decisive turn for Carolina. They unleashed four goals against New Jersey's defense while only conceding one more from Cody Glass of New Jersey towards its conclusion—sealing victory firmly within reach for them at home turf.

Throughout all three periods combined: Jacob Markstrom made significant contributions between posts saving 27 out of total shots faced but ultimately couldn't prevent defeat due largely thanks again largely due defensive lapses allowing too many chances against him overall despite some standout individual performances like those mentioned above earlier sections already covered here today now too!
