The New York Islanders entered PNC Arena with determination and it showed in their gameplay. They managed to net two goals on just seven shots, boasting an impressive shooting percentage of twenty-nine percent. Their offensive efforts were complemented by a solid defensive performance; they blocked five shots and recorded nine hits throughout the period.

The goaltending for the Islanders was impeccable, with ten saves made and a save percentage that reached perfection. This defensive stronghold left the Hurricanes scoreless despite their ten shots on goal. Additionally, while both teams faced penalties in this matchup—with the Islanders taking three for nine minutes and the Hurricanes two for seven minutes—neither side could capitalize on these opportunities.

Faceoffs were an area where the New York team struggled somewhat, winning just eight out of twenty-six attempts which calculates to thirty-one percent success rate in faceoffs won. Despite this challenge, they maintained control of the game through effective puck management with only two giveaways compared to their two takeaways.

On special teams play, neither squad was able to break through; both teams had zero powerplay goals despite one opportunity for Carolina. The even strength play proved decisive as all goals scored by either team came during five-on-five or four-on-four situations.
