The game began with the Canadiens taking an early lead by scoring in the first period. However, their advantage was short-lived as the Rangers equalized in the second period and then took control of the game by adding four more goals to their tally in the third. The home team's offensive efforts were reflected in their superior shooting percentage of eleven percent compared to seven percent for Montreal.

The Rangers' powerplay unit proved to be particularly effective, converting two out of three opportunities into goals. This special teams success was complemented by strong even-strength play where they netted three additional goals. The team's faceoff win percentage stood at fifty-eight percent, giving them an edge in possession and control throughout much of the contest.

Defensively, New York's goaltender played an integral role with twenty-six saves and a perfect save percentage during even-strength play. This defensive solidity limited Montreal to just two goals over sixty minutes of playtime.

On offense, every line contributed as evidenced by fourteen points scored collectively by Ranger players – nine assists coupled with five goals showcased their balanced attack against Montreal's defense which blocked sixteen shots but ultimately conceded five times.

Montreal’s goaltender faced a barrage from New York’s offense but managed forty-one saves despite letting four past him before an empty-net goal sealed his team’s fate late in regulation time. Despite this effort between the pipes and twenty-two hits delivered across all periods trying to disrupt Ranger momentum, it wasn't enough to overcome New York's relentless pressure.

Looking ahead for fans of The Blueshirts: The next challenge for New York will be on April 9th when they visit UBS Arena to take on local rivals –the New York Islanders–in what promises to be another exciting matchup. Fans can catch all action live starting at 7:00 PM Eastern Time on ESPN+, MSG 2 or MSGSN networks.
