First Period

The opening period saw the Ottawa Senators take control early on, scoring four goals without any response from the Blueshirts. Brady Tkachuk was instrumental for the Sens, contributing significantly to their offensive surge. The Rangers struggled defensively, allowing too many opportunities for their opponents.

Second Period

In an attempt to rally back, New York managed to find some rhythm in the second period with a goal from Alexis Lafreniere. However, Ottawa continued their strong performance by adding two more goals to their tally. Despite efforts from players like Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck who provided assists during this period, it was evident that defensive lapses were costly for New York.

Third Period

The final period saw a spirited effort from the Broadway Blues as they scored three additional goals courtesy of Gabe Perreault and Noah Laba among others. Yet again, Ottawa matched this with two more goals of their own. Dylan Cozens and Ridly Greig were pivotal in maintaining Ottawa's lead throughout this segment.

Overall, what went wrong for New York Rangers was primarily rooted in defensive shortcomings and missed opportunities during faceoffs where they had a win percentage of just 34 percent compared to Ottawa's dominance at faceoff wins.
