Senators' Effort Overwhelmed by Flames' Offensive Blaze at Scotiabank Saddledome

The Ottawa Senators faced a challenging contest against the Calgary Flames, concluding with a 3-6 defeat. The Senators now hold a record of 20-18-9, while the Flames improved to 24-16-5. Despite an early lead, the Senators could not withstand the Flames' fiery comeback in the third period.

The game began promisingly for the Ottawa Senators as they netted two goals in the first period and added another in the second, bringing their total to three. Their shooting percentage stood at nine percent after taking 33 shots on goal. The powerplay unit managed to convert one of their three opportunities into a goal, thanks to their sixty percent faceoff win rate during those chances.

Defensively, however, it was a tough night for Ottawa's squad as they were out-hit by Calgary's more physical play; recording only thirteen hits compared to twenty-four by the Flames. Additionally, despite blocking sixteen shots and winning fifty-five percent of faceoffs overall (32 out of 58), these efforts were overshadowed by conceding six goals at even strength.

Ottawa's goaltender faced an onslaught from Calgary's offense throughout all periods but managed thirty saves with an overall save percentage rounding up to one hundred percent until an empty-netter brought his total goals against count to six on thirty-six shots faced.

On special teams aside from their single powerplay goal, Ottawa also held firm while shorthanded; successfully fending off all threats without conceding any goals during penalty kills and making three saves in those situations.

Despite these valiant efforts from individual players and units within the team structure, it was ultimately not enough as Calgary surged ahead with four third-period goals sealing victory for them on home ice before seventeen thousand two hundred nineteen fans at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Looking forward after this hard-fought battle on enemy territory, fans can catch their next glimpse of hope when The Ottawa Senators take on Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center in Buffalo. This upcoming match is scheduled for January 12th and will be broadcasted nationally via ESPN+ online platform or through MSG-B channel number 635-1 for local television viewers eager to support their team from afar.
