The third period saw each team netting one goal apiece, leading to an electrifying shootout where Ottawa ultimately sealed their victory.

Despite allowing three goals against on even strength from a total of 29 shots faced, Ottawa's goalie denied all attempts during both powerplay and shorthanded scenarios.

On offense, Ottawa matched Vegas shot for shot with each team taking a total of 33 attempts on goal; however, it was Ottawa's ability to find the back of the net when it mattered most that made all the difference. Their shooting accuracy was reflected in their nine percent shooting percentage compared to Vegas' ten percent.
