Senators Set Sights on Taming the Islanders at UBS Arena

As the Ottawa Senators prepare to face off against the New York Islanders, fans are looking forward to what promises to be an intriguing matchup at UBS Arena. The Senators, despite recent setbacks, have shown resilience and a capacity for strategic play that could very well turn the tide in their favor.

In their last game on March 3 against the Philadelphia Flyers, OTT demonstrated a strong defensive effort with 30 blocked shots and a commendable faceoff win percentage of 57 percent. However, they struggled to capitalize on powerplay opportunities and ultimately fell short with a final score of 2-4. This loss highlighted areas where improvement is necessary; particularly in converting powerplays into goals and maintaining puck possession as evidenced by their seven giveaways.

OTT's goaltending has been solid with an impressive save percentage of 100 percent during even strength play against the Flyers. This level of performance between the pipes will be crucial when they meet NYI, who are known for their aggressive offense.

The Senators' previous encounter with Arizona Coyotes on March 2 showcased their offensive capabilities as they scored three goals but were outmatched by Arizona's five. Despite this loss, there were positive takeaways such as winning over half of their faceoffs and successfully blocking numerous shots.

The key for OTT lies in harnessing these strengths while addressing weaknesses like penalty kills where they allowed two goals against four shorthanded situations versus Arizona. Their ability to adapt and overcome these challenges will be tested once more when they go up against NYI.

Looking ahead at NYI's recent performance provides insight into what OTT is up against. The Islanders have been formidable opponents this season with a balanced attack that can strike from anywhere on the ice. They'll need to keep close tabs on NYI's top scorers while also disrupting their rhythm through physical play and smart positioning.

Fans should expect OTT to come out determined after reflecting on past performances and making necessary adjustments. With sharpened strategies both offensively and defensively, there’s potential for them to upset NYI in front of an away crowd – provided they execute flawlessly under pressure.

The upcoming battle is scheduled for March 16 at UBS Arena in Belmont Park at 11:30 AM EST (4:30 PM GMT). Fans eager not to miss any action can tune into ESPN+ online or MSGSN television network for live coverage of what promises to be an exciting clash between these two teams.
