Did the Senators' Defense Crumble Against the Canadiens at Bell Centre?

First Period

The opening period saw the Habs take an early lead with two goals. The Sens struggled to find their rhythm initially, with Linus Ullmark making crucial saves to keep them within reach. Despite being outshot by Montreal, Ottawa's defense managed to hold firm after those initial strikes.

Second Period

Ottawa came alive in the second period as Drake Batherson and Tim Stutzle each found the back of the net, leveling the score. Batherson was particularly effective, contributing both a goal and an assist during this period. The Sens' faceoff win percentage of 58 percent played a significant role in their ability to control play and create scoring opportunities.

Third Period

In a tense third period, Michael Amadio scored for Ottawa, giving them hope of securing victory. However, Montreal responded with another goal from Nick Suzuki that tied things up once more. Both teams displayed strong defensive efforts; however, it was clear that giveaways were becoming costly for Ottawa as they recorded 15 throughout the game.

Overtime

The overtime period proved decisive when Cole Caufield scored for Montreal just before time expired. This marked his standout performance as he was named one of the stars of the match alongside teammates Suzuki and Ivan Demidov.

Despite their efforts and resilience throughout regulation time, what went wrong for Ottawa Senators seemed rooted in missed opportunities during powerplays where they failed to capitalize on any chances given by penalties against Montreal.

As fans reflect on this intense matchup through post-game thoughts Ottawa Senators will look ahead towards improving their strategies before facing Boston Bruins next at TD Garden on November 6th at 7:00 PM EDT broadcasted via ESPN+ or NESN TV network.
