First Period

The opening period saw a slow start for the Senators as they struggled to find their rhythm. The Habs capitalized on this and scored twice, setting an early tone. Despite having several opportunities, including powerplay chances, Ottawa couldn't convert them into goals.

Second Period

Ottawa came alive in the second period with an impressive offensive display. Jake Sanderson led the charge with a goal and three assists, contributing significantly to Ottawa's four-goal surge. The Sens' powerplay unit managed to score twice during this period but missed additional opportunities that could have extended their lead.

Third Period

In the third period, both teams exchanged blows with Montreal scoring two more goals while Ottawa added one more from Brady Tkachuk. However, defensive lapses allowed Montreal back into contention as they tied up the game late in regulation.

Overtime

The overtime was short-lived as Cole Caufield of Montreal netted his decisive goal quickly into extra time. This marked another missed opportunity for Ottawa's defense which failed to contain Caufield’s swift maneuvering around their zone.

Despite strong individual performances from players like Jake Sanderson and Brady Tkachuk, what went wrong for Ottawa Senators was evident in their inability to capitalize on key moments such as powerplays and defensive breakdowns that allowed easy goals for Montreal.

Fans can look forward to seeing how these lessons are applied when they face Detroit Red Wings next at Little Caesars Arena on January 18th at 5:00 PM EST. Catch all action live via ESPN+ or FDSDET TV network! Share your thoughts about this game and stay tuned for more updates!
