First Period

The game began with both teams showcasing their offensive capabilities. The Senators struck first with a goal from Shane Pinto, who capitalized on an early powerplay opportunity. However, the Red Wings responded quickly with Alex DeBrincat finding the back of the net to level the score.

Second Period

In the second period, Ottawa's Tim Stutzle made his presence felt by assisting Dylan Cozens for another powerplay goal. Despite this effort, Detroit managed to pull ahead with two goals during even strength play. James van Riemsdyk was instrumental for Detroit as he contributed an assist and maintained pressure on Ottawa's defense.

Third Period

The third period saw both teams locked in a defensive battle as neither could find a breakthrough despite several attempts on goal. The Sens' goaltender Linus Ullmark made crucial saves to keep his team within reach.

Overtime

As overtime commenced, it was clear that fatigue was setting in for both sides. Unfortunately for Ottawa fans, it was Alex DeBrincat again who sealed victory for Detroit with his second goal of the night during an intense three-on-three play.

Despite their efforts and strong performances from players like Drake Batherson and Brady Tkachuk (who provided key assists), what went wrong for Ottawa Senators was their inability to capitalize on scoring chances during regulation time and maintain defensive composure under pressure.
