Can the Flyers Soar Past the Senators at Wells Fargo Center?

As the Philadelphia Flyers gear up to face off against the Ottawa Senators, fans are eager for a glimpse into what might unfold on the ice. The upcoming clash at Wells Fargo Center is poised to be a pivotal moment for both teams, but it's the Flyers who have been drawing attention with their recent performances.

In their last game against the New Jersey Devils on February 18th, despite a valiant effort and an impressive 48 shots on goal, Philadelphia fell short with a final score of 3-6. The team's shooting percentage was just 6 percent that night – far from what they're capable of. However, one shining aspect was their power play; they managed to convert one out of three opportunities.

The Flyers' physicality was evident as they dished out 31 hits during that game. Yet, this aggressive play did not translate into puck control as evidenced by their faceoff win percentage sitting at only 40 percent. This area will need improvement if they hope to dominate possession against Ottawa.

Looking back further to February 16th in Toronto against the Maple Leafs, Philadelphia again scored three goals but ultimately lost in overtime. Their shooting percentage improved slightly to 9 percent and they were able to capitalize on one power play goal from three chances once more.

But it's not all about looking back; let’s consider what could give Philadelphia an edge in their upcoming home game. On February 13th at Wells Fargo Center – where they'll meet Ottawa – Philly showed formidable strength by defeating Arizona Coyotes with five goals and an impressive shooting percentage of 15 percent.

Their performance in front of home fans was robust; winning nearly 60 percent of faceoffs which allowed them better control over the game flow and puck possession. They also capitalized on penalty opportunities scoring once out of eight power plays while keeping discipline with only four penalties throughout the match.

The Senators should be wary as PHI has shown resilience and capability when playing at home. With better execution on power plays and maintaining strong defense that limits opponents' scoring chances as seen in previous games, there’s potential for a favorable outcome for Philly fans.

As we look ahead to March 3rd when these two teams collide under bright lights at Wells Fargo Center, it’s clear that if Philadelphia can harness their strengths – particularly improving faceoff wins and capitalizing on power plays – there is every chance that victory could be theirs.
