Capitals Overpower Flyers 5-2 at Capital One Arena

In an intense matchup at Capital One Arena, the Philadelphia Flyers were unable to sustain their early momentum against the Washington Capitals. Defensively though, it was a challenging night for the Flyers as they ended up with a minus fifteen plus-minus rating. They blocked twelve shots but gave away nine turnovers and spent ten minutes in penalties across five infractions which hindered their ability to build consistent pressure.


Philadelphia's goaltender faced twenty-one shots and made sixteen saves but ultimately suffered from five goals against him throughout regular play time which lasted sixty minutes without any need for overtime action.

On contrast, despite fewer hits (28) and giveaways (13), the Capitals capitalized on their chances more efficiently with an impressive shooting percentage of twenty-four percent resulting in five goals from twenty-one shots. Their powerplay unit scored once out of three chances while also managing to block nineteen opposing attempts on goal.


Washington's goalie had an impactful performance by saving twenty-one out of twenty-three shots directed his way over sixty minutes on ice; this included stopping all six shorthanded attempts by Philadelphia ensuring no damage done when his team was most vulnerable.
