The game held at PPG Paints Arena saw the New Jersey Devils take control early on. Despite an aggressive start by the Penguins with a goal in the first period, it was not enough to maintain their lead. The Devils responded fiercely in the second period with three goals, showcasing their offensive capabilities and putting them ahead. They continued to apply pressure and managed to secure another goal in the third period.

The Penguins displayed resilience throughout the match. Their efforts were evident as they registered more hits than their opponents, tallying up to 34 compared to 25 by the Devils. Additionally, they had more powerplay opportunities than New Jersey but failed to capitalize on any of them despite having nine chances.
