The Penguins started strong, scoring four goals in the first period. Their offensive effort was led by their powerplay unit which capitalized on both opportunities they had, boasting a faceoff win percentage of 100 percent during those powerplays. The team's shooting accuracy was notable as well, with an overall shooting percentage of nearly 13 percent from their total shots on goal.

Despite the early lead, the Red Wings managed to mount a comeback. They scored two goals in both the second and third periods before sealing their victory with an overtime goal. Their powerplay unit also performed effectively, scoring two goals from four chances and winning over half of their faceoffs throughout the game.
