Pittsburgh Penguins Set to Host Seattle Kraken at PPG Paints Arena

As the Pittsburgh Penguins prepare to welcome the Seattle Kraken to PPG Paints Arena, fans are eager for what promises to be an enthralling matchup. The game is set against the backdrop of Pittsburgh's iconic venue, known for its vibrant atmosphere that could play a pivotal role in spurring on the home team.

The Penguins have shown a mixed bag of results in their recent outings. In their last game against the Ottawa Senators, despite a strong offensive showing with 34 shots and 4 goals, they fell short in overtime with a final score of 5-4. Their powerplay capitalized once out of seven opportunities, and while faceoff wins were high at 59 percent, defensive lapses were evident as they ended up with a minus-eight plus-minus rating.

In contrast, during their previous home game against the Carolina Hurricanes, it was defense and goaltending that shone through. The Penguins emerged victorious in a shootout after tying 1-1 through regulation and overtime. They demonstrated resilience on special teams by successfully defending all but one of five powerplays while converting none themselves.

Earlier encounters show similar patterns; when facing off against Minnesota Wild at home, Pittsburgh secured a win with four goals from thirty shots and excelled on powerplays scoring twice out of five chances. Their faceoff performance was strong at nearly 58 percent won.

These recent performances suggest that while Pittsburgh can rely on solid goaltending and faceoff prowess, there's room for improvement defensively and in capitalizing on powerplay opportunities more consistently.

Fans should look forward to an exciting contest where special teams could very well make or break the outcome for the Penguins. With strategic adjustments and leveraging their home ice advantage at PPG Paints Arena, they will aim to tilt this upcoming match in their favor.

Be sure not to miss this thrilling encounter scheduled for January 15th at 6:00 PM Eastern Time. Tune into ESPN+ nationally or catch local broadcasts on ROOT Sports NW if you're cheering from Seattle or SportsNet PT from Pittsburgh.
