In the first period, the Penguins established their dominance early by netting two goals which set the tone for the rest of the match. They continued to apply pressure in the second period with an additional goal, bringing their lead to three before heading into the final period where they sealed their victory with one more goal. The team's offensive effort was complemented by stellar goaltending; Pittsburgh's goalie saved all but one of the 31 shots against him, boasting a perfect save percentage during even strength play.


The Penguins' defense was equally formidable; they blocked a total of 18 shots and took away possession from Washington Capitals players on 21 occasions. Despite being handed four penalties throughout the game, resulting in eight penalty minutes, they did not concede any powerplay goals thanks to disciplined shorthanded play.

On offense, every line contributed as evidenced by eight assists spread across various players and twelve points accumulated overall. An empty-net goal towards game's end underscored Pittsburgh’s control over proceedings.


The Washington Capitals managed only one goal despite having four powerplays and launching 31 shots towards net. Their lone goal came during powerplay time where they had better success winning faceoffs at a rate of 67 percent compared to their overall rate of just under half at even strength.
