In a hard-fought battle at Capital One Arena, the San Jose Sharks were edged out by the Washington Capitals. Despite an early lead with a goal in the first period contributing to their total shots count of 31, the Sharks were unable to maintain their momentum throughout the subsequent periods. The team's shooting percentage settled at three percent as they managed to convert only one opportunity into a goal.

The Sharks' goaltender put up an impressive performance with 40 saves and a save percentage of approximately 95 percent but ultimately recorded a loss due to two goals conceded during even strength play and one empty-netter that sealed their fate. On defense, they blocked an admirable number of shots totaling 24 and delivered 18 hits over the course of play.

Offensively, while assists were made on their lone goal, they struggled during power plays with zero goals from zero opportunities. Faceoff win percentage was slightly below half for both teams; however, it was marginally lower for the Sharks at around 48 percent during even strength situations.

On special teams play, despite having three shorthanded shots and successfully winning three out seven faceoffs when down a man – which translates to roughly forty-three percent – no shorthanded goals materialized for them.

Conversely, while facing similar challenges in converting powerplay opportunities into scores like their opponents did not manage any either from six shots taken across three chances – it was during even strength where they capitalized on scoring all three goals from thirty-six attempts giving them about seven percent shooting accuracy overall. Their faceoff win rate slightly surpassed fifty-one percent under these conditions which may have contributed towards securing this victory alongside twenty-seven hits that underscored their physical presence on ice throughout this matchup against visiting side from San Jose.
