The Sharks showcased their defensive resilience throughout the game. The goaltender was particularly impressive, saving 33 out of 34 shots for an outstanding save percentage of 97 percent. This performance was crucial in securing the win for San Jose. Offensively, the Sharks managed to convert one out of their three powerplay opportunities into a goal and maintained an even strength throughout the game by scoring another goal during regular play.

On special teams, both sides had three powerplays each; however, it was the home team that capitalized on this advantage by scoring once during their powerplay time. The Capitals were unable to find success in these situations and ended up with no goals from their six powerplay shots.

In terms of puck possession metrics such as faceoffs won and lost, both teams were evenly matched with each winning half of their faceoffs at fifty percent. The Sharks' ability to take away possession from their opponents was evident as they recorded thirteen takeaways compared to nine by the Capitals.

Despite being slightly less aggressive in shooting with twenty-three attempts compared to thirty-four by Washington, San Jose demonstrated efficiency by achieving an eight percent shooting percentage against two percent for Washington. Both teams showed discipline on ice as they incurred only six penalty minutes each.
