Sharks Set to Battle Penguins at PPG Paints Arena in Mid-March Matchup

As the San Jose Sharks prepare to face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena, fans are eager for insights into how their team might fare. The Sharks' recent performances have been a mixed bag, but there's reason for cautious optimism as they head into enemy territory.

In their last game on March 3 against the Dallas Stars, the Sharks showed tenacity, pushing the match to a shootout after a deadlock in overtime. Despite falling short with a final score of 2-3, they demonstrated resilience by maintaining an even strength throughout and securing an impressive 37 hits. Their goaltending was particularly noteworthy; with a save percentage rounding up to 100 percent and only two goals allowed during regulation and overtime combined.

However, one area where SJ struggled was in faceoffs – winning just 33 percent of them. This is an aspect that could significantly impact their upcoming game if not addressed. Additionally, while their powerplay opportunities were limited to two during this match-up with no goals scored on these chances, it's an area that has shown potential in other recent games.

Looking back at February 28 against the New Jersey Devils provides another perspective on what SJ brings to the ice. Despite suffering a heavy loss with seven goals conceded and only scoring twice themselves, they managed more shots on goal than in their subsequent game against Dallas – indicating fluctuating offensive output that could surprise Pittsburgh if harnessed correctly.

The most telling performance came from their encounter with Anaheim Ducks on March 1. The Sharks displayed formidable powerplay capabilities by converting three out of six opportunities into goals – contributing significantly to their four total points scored despite ultimately losing with six points conceded.

As they gear up for Pittsburgh Penguins who are known for their strong defensive play and effective penalty kill units, San Jose must capitalize on every chance afforded them – especially when it comes down to powerplays which could be decisive given both teams' track records.

The upcoming clash scheduled for March 14 at PPG Paints Arena promises high stakes as both teams vie for dominance. Fans can catch all the action live starting at 7:00 PM Eastern Time (ET) across various networks including ESPN+ online or SportsNet PT and NBCS-CA on television.
