At the SAP Center at San Jose, fans witnessed an intense matchup where the Sharks struggled to keep pace with their opponents. The Islanders opened strong, netting two goals in the first period and adding an impressive four more in the second. Despite being even on strength for most of the game, it was clear that New York had found their rhythm early on.

The Sharks managed to respond with two goals in the second period but failed to capitalize further as they were shut out in both first and third periods. The home team's powerplay unit did find success once out of their single opportunity when they converted on a 5v4 advantage for one of their two goals scored during that night.

San Jose's goaltender faced a barrage from New York's offense, saving 26 out of 33 shots while his counterpart from New York saved an efficient 23 out of 25 shots. The Islanders' shooting accuracy was notable as they recorded a shooting percentage of twenty-one percent compared to eight percent by San Jose.

The Sharks also fell short in faceoff wins at forty-five percent against fifty-five percent won by New York and were less effective physically with only seven hits throughout the game compared to four by their opponents. Additionally, both teams served penalties twice but it was only New York who capitalized on these chances scoring one goal during powerplay situations.
