Sharks' Powerplay Strikes, But Kraken Prevail in San Jose
The San Jose Sharks, with a record of 10-15-1 and 21 points, faced off against the Seattle Kraken who came into the game with a record of 17-10-4 and 38 points. In a hard-fought contest at SAP Center at San Jose, the final score read 4-2 in favor of the visiting team.
The Sharks opened their account early in the first period, setting an aggressive tone for the game. The powerplay unit capitalized on one of their two opportunities when they converted a goal during a man advantage that lasted for 2:48. This special teams success was reflected in their powerplay faceoff win percentage which stood at an impressive 67 percent.
Despite this bright start, it was not enough to hold back the Kraken's even-strength play. The visitors managed to net four goals during regular play while maintaining a shooting accuracy of twelve percent throughout the game. Their winning goal proved decisive as they successfully defended against all but one even-strength shot by the Sharks.
The home team's goaltender made an admirable effort with twenty-eight saves on thirty-one shots but ultimately conceded three goals during play and one more to an empty netter. On offense, despite generating twenty-six shots and achieving eight percent shooting accuracy overall, only two found their way past Seattle's solid goaltending which boasted a perfect save percentage over sixty minutes.
Defensively, both teams were relatively disciplined with each side taking only two minor penalties amounting to four penalty minutes each. The Sharks outperformed their opponents in hits with twenty-two compared to eight by Seattle and also led takeaways six to five.
Looking ahead for fans of the Sharks is another chance for redemption as they prepare to host Los Angeles Kings at SAP Center at San Jose on April 5th at 7:30 PM PDT. This upcoming matchup can be viewed live on ESPN+ or Hulu for those following from home or online.
