First Period

The opening period saw both teams locked in a defensive battle with neither side managing to find the back of the net. The Sharks struggled with giveaways, totaling 23 by game's end, which hindered their offensive momentum early on. Yaroslav Askarov stood firm between the pipes for San Jose, making crucial saves to keep his team in contention.

Second Period

Colorado broke through in the second period with two goals that set them apart from their opponents. The Avs capitalized on their opportunities and showcased superior faceoff skills by winning 61 percent of them throughout the match. Meanwhile, Tyler Toffoli and Macklin Celebrini worked tirelessly to create chances for San Jose but were unable to convert during this segment.

Third Period

San Jose mounted a comeback attempt in the third period with goals from Philipp Kurashev and Timothy Liljegren. Kurashev's goal was particularly notable as he demonstrated precision shooting with one of his two shots finding its mark at an impressive shooting percentage of 50 percent. However, Colorado matched each goal scored by San Jose and sealed their victory with an empty-netter towards game’s end.

Despite outshooting Colorado during power plays (1 shot), San Jose failed to capitalize on these opportunities due largely due lackluster faceoff performance (33 percent win rate). Askarov continued his valiant efforts saving 38 shots overall but could not prevent all four goals against him.
