In what was an intense matchup at Capital One Arena, the St. Louis Blues were unable to secure victory against the Washington Capitals. The game saw both teams scoring once in the first period, but it was during the second period that the Capitals began to pull away with an additional two goals. By the end of third period, they had cemented their lead by scoring twice more.

The Blues' performance showcased their resilience and determination throughout each period. They managed to net one goal early on and added another in third, demonstrating their ability to fight back against adversity. Despite these efforts, they struggled on powerplays where they failed to convert any of their five opportunities into goals.

On defense, St. Louis put up a strong front by blocking 15 shots and delivering eight hits over three periods but ultimately conceded five goals including one empty-netter which sealed their fate late in third period. Their goaltender made an admirable effort with 21 saves out of 25 shots faced before being pulled for an extra attacker towards game's end.

Offensively for St. Louis, there were bright spots as well; they took a total of 20 shots on goal and successfully won half of all faceoffs during powerplays (50 percent). However, overall faceoff win percentage was slightly below par at just under half (49 percent).

Meanwhile, Washington's offense proved too potent for visiting team's defense; converting two out four powerplay chances into goals while maintaining a shooting accuracy rate nearly double that of St. Louis (19 percent compared to Blues' ten percent). Their goalie also contributed significantly with an impressive save percentage ensuring only two pucks found back net from twenty attempts by opposing team.

As fans look ahead after this tough loss on road trip for St Louis Blues', attention turns toward next challenge awaiting them back home at Enterprise Center where they will host Washington Capitals again on January 21st at 7:00 PM local time (8:00 PM EST). This upcoming game will be available for viewing across various networks including ESPN+ online as well as BSMW channel number 671 locally and MNMT2 channel number 642-1 for away audience ensuring fans won't miss any action from this anticipated rematch.
