In an intense matchup at the Enterprise Center, home to 18,096 fans that evening, the St. Louis Blues were unable to secure victory against a resilient Toronto Maple Leafs squad. Despite both teams starting slow and ending the first period without any points on board, it was during the second period that momentum began to shift. The Blues managed to break through with one goal but were matched by a single goal from their opponents.

As play continued into the third period, it became clear that this was not going to be an easy win for either side. The Blues fought valiantly and added another goal to their tally; however, they could not contain Toronto's offensive push which resulted in three goals during this final stretch of play.

The statistics reflect a closely contested battle: while Toronto outscored St. Louis with four goals to two and had nine points over six for St. Louis, both teams registered two powerplays each with one successful powerplay goal apiece. However, it was perhaps faceoff performance where some differences can be noted – Toronto won 32 out of 61 faceoffs (52 percent), slightly edging out St. Louis who won just under half at 29 wins (48 percent).

On defense and goaltending fronts as well there were notable performances; despite conceding four goals overall including an empty netter towards game's end – indicative of their push for an equalizer – St. Louis' goalie made commendable saves throughout regular play time maintaining a save percentage rounding up to almost perfect figures.
