At Amalie Arena, home to the Lightning and filled to capacity with 19,092 fans in attendance, the match began without any scoring in the first period. However, as play progressed into the second period, both teams found their stride. The Lightning scored twice while allowing two goals from their opponents. By the end of this pivotal period, each team had demonstrated an ability to penetrate defenses and capitalize on opportunities.

The third period continued in similar fashion as both teams added to their tallies; however it was Tampa Bay that managed two more goals against Montreal's single additional goal. The home team's offense proved more efficient throughout; they achieved four goals from just 20 shots compared to three goals from 29 shots by Montreal. This sharpshooting performance resulted in an impressive shooting percentage of twenty percent for Tampa Bay.

Defensively speaking, Tampa Bay's goaltender played a crucial role by saving twenty-six out of twenty-nine shots directed at him during even-strength play – maintaining a perfect save percentage throughout all situations including shorthanded scenarios where he saved one out of one shot faced.

Tampa Bay also displayed discipline despite engaging physically throughout – registering thirty-one hits while keeping penalty minutes lower than their adversaries (nineteen minutes for Tampa versus thirteen for Montreal). They did struggle on faceoffs though winning only seventeen out of fifty-two draws which translated into a thirty-three percent success rate at faceoff dot.

Looking ahead after this hard-fought victory at home ice – fans can catch The Tampa Bay Lightning when they visit Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre on January 3rd at 8:00 PM Eastern Time. This game will be broadcasted nationally on ESPN+ and locally on BSSUN channel six hundred fifty-three for those following away from home.
